ORDER OF THE DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE AND TECHNICAL INSTRUCTION FOR IRELAND. 1923. No. 15.

THE FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE (DISINFECTION OF PERSONS) ORDER, 1923.

(Dated 27th November, 1923).

THE Department of Agriculture and Technical Instruction, by virtue and in exercise of the powers vested in them under the Agriculture and Technical Instruction (Ireland) Act, 1899, the Diseases of Animals Acts, 1894 to 1914, and of every other power enabling them in this behalf, do, with the concurrence of the Minister for Agriculture, order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:—

1 Interpretation.

1. In this Order—

"The Department" means the Department of Agriculture and Technical Instruction.

"The Act of 1894" means the Diseases of Animals Act, 1894.

"Animals" means cattle, sheep, goats, or other ruminating animals, or swine.

2 Application.

2. This Order applies to any person landing in Saorstát Eireann during the operation of this Order who, prior to his landing, has been, or, in the opinion of an Inspector of the Department, is likely to have been engaged in, or employed in connection with the buying or selling, or shipping or unshipping of animals in Great Britain, or in contact with animals either on board ship in transit to or from Great Britain or in any part of Great Britain.

3 Disinfection on Landing.

3. (1) Every person to whom this Order applies, on each occasion of his entering any wharf or place of landing, in Saorstát Eireann shall, before leaving such wharf or place, submit himself and his clothes (including boots, rugs, overalls, and all wearing apparel carried by him at the time) to disinfection in the manner there provided for the purpose.

(2) If any person, without lawful authority or excuse, proof of which shall lie on him, fails to observe the requirement of this Article he shall be deemed guilty of an offence against the Act of 1894.

4 Names and Addresses.

4. Every person to whom this Order applies shall furnish his name and address to an Inspector of the Department when requested by the Inspector to do so, and any person who, on receiving such a request, refuses or fails to furnish his name and address, or furnishes a false name and address, shall be deemed guilty of an offence against the Act of 1894.

5 Suspension of Order.

5. The Foot and Mouth Disease (Ireland) Order of 1900 Amendment Order, dated 11th January, 1916, is hereby suspended as regards Saorstát Éireann during the operation of this Order.

6 Commencement.

6. This Order shall come into operation forthwith.

7 Short Title and Construction.

7. This Order may be cited as the Foot and Mouth Disease (Disinfection of Persons) Order, of 1923.
