THE ELECTORAL ACT, 1923.

[Extract from Iris Oifigiúil of 4th May, 1923.]

IN pursuance of the powers vested in me by Sub-section (2) of Section 11 and by Clause 2 of the Second Schedule to the Electoral Act, 1923 , hereinafter referred to as "the Act," and of all other powers in this behalf enabling me, I, the Minister for Local Government do hereby order and prescribe as follows:—

1. The forms set out in the Schedule to this Order or forms to the like effect shall be used in the cases to which they purport to be applicable, and shall for the purposes of the Act be deemed to be the prescribed forms.

2. This Order may be cited as the Registration of Electors (Forms) Order, 1923.

SCHEDULE REFERRED TO IN THE ABOVE ORDER.

FORM (1).

Form of Claim to be registered as a University Elector.

(NOTE.—Any change in address should always be notified to the Registration Officer of the University at once, otherwise the Ballot paper may be lost, and your name removed from the Register.)

I declare that the particulars given in this form of claim are true and accurate to the best of my knowledge and belief, and I hereby claim to be registered as an elector for the University franchise to which I am entitled in respect of the particulars given in the above claim.

Any false declaration made for the purposes of this claim will render the claimant liable to a penalty.

The expression "qualifying date" means in the case of the first Register prepared under the Electoral Act, 1923 , the 15th day of October, 1922, and in the case of subsequent registers the 15th day of November.

The expression "business premises" means land, buildings or other premises occupied for the purpose of your business, profession or trade and of the rateable value of not less than ten pounds, and includes part of a house or building.

In the case of graduates who have received a degree both in the Universitly of Dublin and the National University of Ireland particulars of each degree and the University in which it was obtained should be given in reply to question No. 6.

Form of Notice to be given to any member of a Police Force on full pay whose name has been expunged from the Electors Lists pursuant to the Registration of Electors (Police) Order, 1923.

"You are hereby informed that you have been certified by the Minister for Home Affairs as being a member of a Police Force on full pay, and that your name which appeared on the Electors Lists for the constituency of................................................... as entitled to be registered as a Dáil elector in respect of†.................................................has been expunged from the said Electors Lists and Register for the constituency of................"

This Register is in force for the year ended . It contains (alphabetically in townland order) (in street order) the names of all persons entitled to vote as Dáil Electors, Local Government Electors and Seanad Electors.

The index letters in columns (2), (3) and (6) show the nature of the qualification of an Elector to vote.

S—Column (2)—Qualified to vote at election to Seanad Eireann.

R—Column (3)—Residence qualification (Dáil Election).

BP—Column (3)—Business Premises qualification (Dáil Election).

O—Column (6)—Occupation qualification (Local Government Election).

HO—Column (6)—Husband's occupation (Local Government Election).

The entry of the appropriate index letter or letters against a name in column (2), (3) or (6) indicates that the person is a Seanad Elector, Dáil Elector, or Local Government Elector, as the case may be. Where no index letter is entered in one or other of those columns against a name, the person is not entitled to the franchise to which the column relates.

NOTE.—† Persons against whose names the mark (†) is placed are not entitled to vote in respect of that entry at Election of County Councillors.

‡ Persons against whose names the mark (‡) is placed are not entitled to vote in respect of that entry at Elections of Rural District Councillors.

*Persons against whose names the mark (*) is placed will vote at another polling place at Dáil and Seanad Elections, and Referenda.

(a) Persons against whose names the letter (a) is placed are Postal Voters.
