UNEMPLOYMENT ASSISTANCE (SECOND EMPLOYMENT PERIOD) ORDER, 1956.

I, BRENDAN CORISH, Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by the joint operation of subsection (3) of section 4 and subsection (1) of section 7 of the Unemployment Assistance Act, 1933 (No. 46 of 1933), and the Social Welfare (Transfer of Departmental Administration and Ministerial Functions) (No. 1) Order, 1947 ( S. R. & O. No. 18 of 1947 ), hereby order as follows :—

1. This Order may be cited as the Unemployment Assistance (Second Employment Period) Order, 1956.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Order.

3. The following regulations shall have effect for the purposes of subsection (3) of section 4 of the Unemployment Assistance Act, 1933 (No. 46 of 1933), that is to say :—

I. The period commencing on the 13th day of June, 1956, and ending on the 23rd day of October, 1956, shall be an employment period in respect of the following class of persons, namely, every man—

(a) who has no dependant, and

(b) whose place of residence is not situate within any county or other borough, urban district or town.

II. Regulation I of these regulations shall not apply to any man who has no dependant and who either—

(a) belongs to the class to which the Unemployment Assistance (Employment Period) Order, 1956 ( S.I. No. 29 of 1956 ), applies ; or

(b) resides in a house, owned by the corporation of a county or other borough or the council of an urban district or the commissioners of a town, situate outside such county or other borough, urban district or town.

III. For the purposes of these regulations—

the word " dependant " means a dependant within the meaning of section 4 of the Unemployment Assistance (Amendment) Act, 1935 (No. 38 of 1935), as amended by section 98 of the Social Welfare Act, 1952 (No. 11 of 1952).

Explanatory Note.

This Order excludes from unemployment assistance during the period from the 13th June, 1956, to the 23rd October, 1956, men who have no dependants and who are resident in non-municipal towns and rural areas. Men without dependants resident in those areas whose houses are owned by the Local Authority of a town having local government are not affected by the Order. Men who would otherwise be affected by this Order but who already come within the scope of the Unemployment Assistance (Employment Period) Order, 1956 ( S.I. No. 29 of 1956 ), are also excepted from the Order.
