CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT (MANUFACTURE OF JUTE GOODS) (YOUNG PERSONS DEEMED TO BE ADULT WORKERS) REGULATIONS, 1962.

I, JOHN LYNCH, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 40 and 57 of the Conditions of Employment Act, 1936 (No. 2 of 1936), being satisfied that young persons employed to do the form of industrial work specified in the Schedule to these Regulations are so employed as assistants to adult workers and that the work of such adult workers could not proceed in a satisfactory manner if such young persons did not work for the same hours as such adult workers, and after consultation with representatives of employers interested in such forms of industrial work and with representatives of workers so interested, hereby make the following regulations :

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Conditions of Employment (Manufacture of Jute Goods) (Young Persons Deemed to be Adult Workers) Regulations, 1962.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to these Regulations.

3. The following shall, while doing the form of industrial work specified in the Schedule to these Regulations, be deemed to be adult workers for the purposes of the Conditions of Employment Act, 1936 :

(a) young persons employed to do, as assistants to adult workers, the said form of industrial work in a place which is not in the county borough of Waterford ;

(b) young persons employed to do, as assistants to adult workers, the said form of industrial work in a place which is in the county borough of Waterford and who are not less than fifteen years.

4. The Conditions of Employment (Spinning and Weaving of Jute) (Young Persons deemed to be Adult Workers) Regulations, 1950 ( S.I. No. 93 of 1950 ), and the Conditions of Employment (Manufacture of Jute Goods, J. & L. F. Goodbody, Limited) (Young Persons deemed to be Adult Workers) Regulations, 1961 ( S.I. No. 175 of 1961 ), are hereby revoked.

The spinning, weaving and manufacture of jute goods and bag-making.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The Conditions of Employment Act, 1936 , provides that young persons may be employed in industrial work between the hours of 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. only.

The purpose of these regulations is to extend until 10 p.m. the period within which certain classes of young persons may be employed as assistants to adult workers in the manufacture of jute goods and bag-making.
