S.I. No. 275/1966 - Garda Síochána (Retirement) Regulations, 1966.


I, BRIAN LENIHAN, Minister for Justice, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 14 of the Police Forces Amalagamation Act, 1925 (No. 7 of 1925), hereby, with the approval of the Government, make the following regulations :

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Garda Síochána (Retirement) Regulations, 1966.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to these Regulations.

3. Notwithstanding anything contained in the Garda Síochána (Retirement) Regulations, 1960 ( S.I. No. 68 of 1960 ), as amended, the Commissioner may, with the consent of the Minister for Justice, where it appears to be in the interest of the efficiency of the Garda Síochána so to do, extend for such period as he may determine, but not exceeding one year at a time, the age at which a member of the Garda Síochána to whom the Garda Síochána (Retirement) Regulations, 1960 ( S.I. No. 68 of 1960 ), apply and who has been in receipt of an allowance under Article 10 of the Garda Síochána Allowances Order, 1926, Article 14 of the Garda Síochána Allowances (Consolidation) Order, 1943 ( S. R. & O. No. 167 of 1943 ), or Article 14 of the Garda Síochána Allowances (Consolidation) Order, 1947 ( S. R. & O. No. 167 of 1947 ), or Article 14 of the Garda Síochána Allowances (Consolidation) Order, 1965 ( S.I. No. 218 of 1965 ), for periods totalling not less than twenty-five years would retire under the said Garda Síochána (Retirement) Regulations, 1960 ( S.I. No. 68 of 1960 ).

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations enable the compulsory retiring age of certain members of the Garda Síochána to be extended in particular circumstances.
