SOCIAL WELFARE (CLAIMS AND PAYMENTS) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1966.

I, JOSEPH BRENNAN, Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 3 and 29 of the Social Welfare Act, 1952 (No. 11 of 1952) and section 47 of that Act as amended by section 12 of the Social Welfare (Amendment) Act, 1960 (No. 25 of 1960) and by section 13 of the Social Welfare (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1963 (No. 26 of 1963) as amended by section 9 of the Social Welfare (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1966 (No. 24 of 1966), hereby make the following Regulations :—

1.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Claims and Payments) (Amendment) Regulations, 1966.

(2) The Social Welfare (Claims and Payments) Regulations, 1952 to 1964, and these Regulations may be cited together as the Social Welfare (Claims and Payments) Regulations, 1952 to 1966.

2. Article 16A (inserted by article 2 of the Social Welfare (Claims and Payments) (Amendment) Regulations, 1964 ( S.I. No. 118 of 1964 )) of the Social Welfare (Claims and Payments) Regulations, 1952 ( S.I. No. 374 of 1952 ) is hereby amended by—

(a) the insertion after "section 26" in sub-article (1) of "or section 27", and

(b) the insertion after "section 26" in sub-article (3) of "or section 27".

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

Power already exists to pay an increase of old age (contributory) pension in respect of an adult dependant to a person other than the pensioner where it appears to the Minister that the circumstances so warrant. These Regulations provide for the extension of this power so that an increase of old age (contributory) pension in respect of a qualified child may also be paid at the Minister's discretion to a person other than the pensioner.
