RABIES (IMPORTATION, LANDING AND MOVEMENT OF ANIMALS) (AMENDMENT) ORDER, 1976. | ||
I, MARK CLINTON, Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 3 and 11 of the Diseases of Animals Act, 1966 (No. 6 of 1966), hereby order as follows: 1. (1) This Order may be cited as the Rabies (Importation, Landing and Movement of Animals) (Amendment) Order, 1976. | ||
(2) The Principal Order and this Order may be cited together as the Rabies (Importation, Landing and Movement of Animals) Orders, 1972 and 1976. 2. In this Order "the Principal Order" means the Rabies (Importation, Landing and Movement of Animals) Order, 1972 ( S.I. No. 16 of 1972 ). 3. The Principal Order is hereby amended by— | ||
( a ) the substitution of the following for Article 4: | ||
"4. In order to provide further for the prevention of the spreading of rabies and to extend for that purpose the application of the Act, in so far as the references to animals contained in Part I of the First Schedule to the Act do not include the animals of the orders of mammals specified in the Schedule to this Order, for all the purposes of the Act that Part shall be construed as if it contained a reference to any animal of the orders of mammals so specified."; and | ||
( b ) by the addition to the Schedule thereto of the following: | ||
"11. The Order Artiodactyla, which Order includes the animals commonly known as peccaries, hippopotamuses, camels, llamas, chevrotains, deer, giraffes, pronghorns, antelopes, duikers and gazelles. | ||
12. The Order Monotremata, which Order includes the animals commonly known as echidnas and duck-billed platypuses. | ||
13. The Order Perissodactyla, which Order includes the animals commonly known as zebras, tapirs, and rhinoceroses. | ||
14. The Order Pholidota, which Order includes the animals commonly known as pangolins. | ||
15. The Order Proboscidea, which Order is comprised of the animal commonly known as an elephant. | ||
16. The Order Tubulidentata, which Order is comprised of the animal commonly known as an aardvark.". | ||

EXPLANATORY NOTE. | ||
This Order, for the purpose of providing further for the prevention of the spreading of rabies, extends the application of certain sections of the Diseases of Animals Act, 1966 to additional classes of animals which are susceptible to the disease. |
