ROAD TRAFFIC (SIGNS) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1979. | ||
The Minister for the Environment in exercise of the powers vested in him by section 5 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961 (No. 24 of 1961) and section 95 of the said Act, as amended by section 6 of the Road Traffic Act, 1968 (No. 25 of 1968) hereby makes the following Regulations:— 1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Road Traffic (Signs) (Amendment) Regulations, 1979. | ||
(2) The Road Traffic (Signs) Regulations, 1962 to 1977 and these Regulations shall be construed together and may be cited collectively as "The Road Traffic (Signs) Regulations, 1962 to 1979". 2. In these Regulations— | ||
"the Principal Regulations" means the Road Traffic (Signs) Regulations, 1962 ( S.I. No. 171 of 1962 ); | ||
"t" appearing on any sign represents one tonne. 3. The First Schedule to the Principal Regulations is hereby amended by— | ||
( a ) the addition to section D of Part III of paragraph (i) and Sign 217 as set out in the Schedule to these Regulations, and | ||
( b ) the addition to Part VI of the following paragraph:— | ||
"11. Sign 217 may be accompanied by a rectangular plate which shall be placed below the sign and shall furnish in black letters on a white field information in regard to the prohibition." | ||
SCHEDULE. | ||
Paragraph and Sign to be added to Section D of Part III of the First Schedule to the Principal Regulations. | ||
(i) To indicate that any vehicle the unladen weight of which exceeds the weight specified on the sign is prohibited from entering a roadway. | ||

EXPLANATORY NOTE. | ||
These Regulations amend the Road Traffic (Signs) Regulations, 1962 to 1977. They provide for the use of a sign to indicate that vehicles, the unladen weight of which exceeds the weight specified on the sign, are prohibited from entering a roadway. |
