EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES (REPEAL AND REVOCATION OF CERTAIN STATUTORY PROVISIONS) REGULATIONS, 1985.

I, JOHN BRUTON, Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act, 1972 (No. 27 of 1972), and for the purpose of giving effect to the provisions of the Treaty establishing the European Economic Community and Acts adopted by the institutions of the European Communities regarding removal of measures which have an effect equivalent to a quantitative restriction on trade hereby make the following regulations:

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Repeal and Revocation of Certain Statutory Provisions) Regulations, 1985.

(2) These Regulations shall come into operation on the 15th day of July, 1985.

2. (1) In the paragraph numbered (1) (as adapted by the Merchandise Marks Act, 1931 (No. 48 of 1931)) of section 16 of the Merchandise Marks Act, 1887, the words from ",and also all goods" to "were made or produced," are hereby repealed.

(2) Part IV of the Merchandise Marks Act, 1931 , is hereby repealed.

3. The following Orders are hereby revoked:

( a ) the Merchandise Marks (Restriction on Importation of Plumbers' Brassfoundry and Compression Couplings) Order, 1970 ( S.I. No. 263 of 1970 ),

( b ) the Consumer Information (Miscellaneous Goods) (Marking) Order, 1984 ( S.I. No. 178 of 1984 ).

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations revoke the statutory requirements relating to origin marking listed in Regulations 2 and 3 of the Regulations.
