INTERNATIONAL CARRIAGE OF GOODS BY ROAD ACT, 1990 (COMMENCEMENT) ORDER, 1991. | ||
I, SÉAMUS BRENNAN, Minister for Tourism and Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 9 (2) (a) of the International Carriage of Goods by Road Act, 1990 (No. 13 of 1990), hereby order as follows: 1. This Order may be cited as the International Carriage of Goods by Road Act, 1990 (Commencement) Order, 1991. 2. It is hereby declared— | ||
(a) that the 1st day of May, 1991, is the day on which CMR (that is to say, the Convention on the Contract for the International Carriage of Goods by Road done at Geneva on the 19th day of May, 1956, as amended by the Protocol done at Geneva on the 5th day of July, 1978) enters into force for the State, and | ||
(b) that in accordance with paragraph (a) of section 9 (2) of the International Carriage of Goods by Road Act, 1990 (No. 13 of 1990), that date is the date on which that Act shall come into operation in relation to carriage other than carriage between the State and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. | ||

EXPLANATORY NOTE. | ||
This Order, made by the Minister for Tourism and Transport declares the 1st day of May, 1991, as the day on which the accession by the State to the Convention on the Contract for the International Carriage of Goods by Road (CMR), as amended by the 1978 Protocol thereto, has effect and, accordingly, the day on which the International Carriage of Goods by Road Act, 1990 (No. 13 of 1990), comes into operation in respect of carriage other than carriage solely between the State and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. | ||
