LOCAL GOVERNMENT (TENURE OF OFFICE) ORDER, 1991.

The Minister for the Environment in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 3 and 47 of the Local Government Act, 1991 (No. 11 of 1991 ) hereby specifies and orders as follows:—

1. This Order may be cited as the Local Government (Tenure of Office) Order, 1991.

2. This Order shall apply to the office of manager and to the offices established by section 21 of the Act.

3. In this Order—

"the Act" means the Local Government Act, 1991 .

4. (1) Subject to sub-article (2) of this article, seven years shall be the specified period for the purposes of section 47 (1) (a) of the Act and sixty years shall be the specified age for the purposes of section 47 (1) (b) of the Act.

(2) In the case of officers of local authorities holding office on the 21st day of May, 1991 who are, on that day, aged fifty years or over and who are appointed to an office to which this Order applies on or after attaining the age of fifty-five years, sub-article (1) of this article shall apply as if there were substituted for "seven years" and "sixty years", "five years" and "sixty-five years" respectively.
