ROAD TRAFFIC GENERAL BYE-LAWS (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1993. | ||
The Minister for the Environment in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 5 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961 (No. 24 of 1961) and section 60 of the Road Traffic Act, 1968 (No. 25 of 1968) hereby makes the following Regulations: 1. These Regulations may be cited as the Road Traffic General Bye-Laws (Amendment) Regulations, 1993. 2. The Road Traffic General Bye-Laws, 1964 ( S.I. No. 294 of 1964 ) are hereby amended by the addition after Part VII of the following matter:— | ||
"PART VIII | ||
Exemptions for Emergency Vehicles | ||
"43. Prohibitions or restrictions imposed by bye-laws6 to 13 and 15 to 22 and paragraph (2) of bye-law 25 and bye-law 28 and paragraph (a) of sub-article (i) of article 40 [inserted by the Road Traffic General Bye-Laws (Amendment) Regulations, 1983 ( S.I. No. 275 of 1983 )] of these bye-laws shall not apply to the use by the driver of a fire brigade vehicle or an ambulance or to the use by a member of the Garda Síochána of a vehicle in the performance of his duties, where such use does not thereby endanger the safety of road users." | ||

EXPLANATORY NOTE. | ||
These Regulations amend the Road Traffic General Bye Laws 1964 and confer certain exemptions from traffic regulations on fire brigade vehicles, ambulances, and Garda vehicles being used in emergency situations. The safety of other road users must be taken into account in the exercise of these exemptions. |
