SOCIAL WELFARE ACT, 1994 (SECTION 19) (COMMENCEMENT) ORDER, 1994. | ||
The Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 19 of the Social Welfare Act, 1994 (No. 4 of 1994), hereby orders as follows:— | ||
1 Citation. | 1. This Order may be cited as the Social Welfare Act, 1994 (Section 19) (Commencement) Order, 1994. | |
2 Commencement. | 2. Section 19 of the Social Welfare Act, 1994 shall come into operation on the 20th day of September, 1994. | |

EXPLANATORY NOTE. | ||
This Order brings section 19 of the Social Welfare Act, 1994 into operation with effect from the 20th day of September, 1994. | ||
Section 19 provides that people engaged in casual employment will be exempt from the condition of having to have sustained a substantial loss of employment to qualify for Unemployment Benefit. It also provides that claims for Unemployment Benefit will only link where they are not separated by more than 2 years in any one continuous period of interruption of employment. |
