SOCIAL WELFARE (OPTIONAL CONTRIBUTIONS) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1995. | ||
The Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 4 of the Social Welfare (Consolidation) Act, 1993 (No. 27 of 1993) and 24C of that Act (inserted by section 4 of the Social Welfare (No. 2) Act, 1993 (No. 32 of 1993)), hereby makes the following Regulations: | ||

1 Citation and construction. | 1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Optional Contributions) (Amendment) Regulations, 1995. | |
(2) These Regulations and the Social Welfare (Optional Contributions) Regulations, 1994 ( S.I. No. 53 of 1994 ) shall be construed together as one and may be cited together as the Social Welfare (Optional Contributions) Regulations, 1994 and 1995. | ||
2 Commencement. | 2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 6th day of April, 1995. | |
3 Determination of optional contributions in certain circumstances. | 3. Article 9 of the Social Welfare (Optional Contributions) Regulations, 1994 is hereby amended by the substitution of "shall be the sum specified in section 18 (1) (h) of the Principal Act." for "shall be £250.". | |

EXPLANATORY NOTE. | ||
Where a person applies to become an optional contributor (under the scheme of social insurance for share fishermen) in the contribution year in which they first became insured as a self-employed contributor, the optional contribution payable is £250. These Regulations reduce the optional contribution payable in this situation to the minimum social insurance contribution payable by a self-employed contributor, i.e. £230 from 6 April, 1995. |
