S.I. No. 36/2002 - European Communities (Marine Equipment) (Amendment) Regulations, 2002
I, FRANK FAHEY, Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act, 1972 (No. 27 of 1972), and for the purposes of giving effect to Commission Directive No. 2001/53/EC of 10 July, 2001 hereby make the following regulations: 1. These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Marine Equipment) (Amendment) Regulations, 2002. 2. The European Communities (Marine Equipment) Regulations, 1998 ( S.I. No. 545 of 1998 ) are hereby amended by the substitution of the following for the definition of “Directive” in Regulation 2.(1) :- | |||||||||
“ “Directive” means Council Directive 96/98/EC(1) of 20 December, 1996, as amended by Commission Directive 98/85/EC(2) of 11 November, 1998 and Commission Directive 2001/53/EC(3) of 10 July, 2001”. | |||||||||

These Regulations give effect to Commission Directive 2001/53/EC of 10 July, 2001 which amend Council Directive 96/98/EC, the purpose of which is to enhance safety at sea and the prevention of marine pollution through the uniform application of the relevant international instruments relating to certain marine equipment. | |||||||||
