S.I. No. 638/2003 - European Communities (Ship Inspection and Survey Organisations) (Amendment) Regulations 2003
I, DERMOT AHERN, Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act 1972 (No. 27 of 1972), and for the purpose of giving further effect to Council Directive 94/57/EC of 22 November 19941 , as amended by Directive 2001/105/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 19 December 20012 and to give effect to Directive 2002/84/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 5 November 20023 , hereby make the following Regulations: 1. These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Ship Inspection and Survey Organisations) (Amendment) Regulations 2003. 2. The European Communities (Ship Inspection and Survey Organisations Regulations 2003 ( S.I. No. 301 of 2003 ) is amended- | ||||||||
(a) in Regulation (2) by substituting the following for the definition of “Directive” | ||||||||
“Directive” means Council Directive 94/57/EC of 22 November 1994 as amended by Directive 2001/105/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 19 December 2001 and Directive 2002/84/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 5 November 2002. | ||||||||
(b) in Regulation 5, by substituting “on the basis” for “the basis”, and | ||||||||
(c) in Regulation 6, by substituting in paragraphs (3) and (4) “paragraph (2)” for “paragraph (1)”. | ||||||||

These Regulations amend the European Communities (Ship Inspection and Survey Organisations) Regulations 2003 in order to improve and accelerate the implementation of Community legislation on maritime safety, the prevention of pollution from ships and shipboard living and working conditions. | ||||||||
