S.I. No. 99/2004 - Road Traffic (Construction and Use of Vehicles) (Amendment) Regulations 2004
I, SÉAMUS BRENNAN, Minister for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 5 and 11 of the Road Traffic Act 1961 (No. 24 of 1961) and the National Roads and Road Traffic (Transfer of Departmental Administration and Ministerial Functions) Order 2002 ( S.I. No. 298 of 2002 ) (as adapted by the Public Enterprise (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order 2002 ( S.I. No. 305 of 2002 ) and for the purpose of giving effect to Directive 2002/7/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 18 February 20021 , hereby make the following regulations: 1. These Regulations may be cited as the Road Traffic (Construction and Use of Vehicles) (Amendment) Regulations 2004. 2. The Road Traffic (Construction and Use of Vehicles) Regulations 2003 ( S.I. No. 5 of 2003 ) are amended by substituting for Regulation 28 the following: | ||||||
“28. The overall length of— | ||||||
(a) a mechanically propelled vehicle other than a bus shall not exceed 12 metres, | ||||||
(b) a trailer shall not exceed 12 metres, | ||||||
(c) an articulated vehicle shall not exceed 16.50 metres, | ||||||
(d) an articulated bus shall not exceed 18.75 metres, | ||||||
(e) a bus having two axles shall not exceed 13.50 metres, and | ||||||
(f) a bus having more than two axles shall not exceed 15.00 metres.”. | ||||||

These Regulations transpose Directive 2002/7/EC relating to maximum authorised vehicle dimensions and weights through the amendment of the Road Traffic (Construction and Use of Vehicles) Regulations 2003. Directive 2002/7/EC, which amends Directive 96/53, sets harmonised maximum length for buses circulating in the Community. | ||||||
