EXPLANATORY NOTE | ||
(This note is not part of the instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation).
The effect of this Order is to amend the Statutory Instrument that provided for penalties for infringements of Council Regulation (EC) No. 423/2007 of 19 April 2007. The Council Regulation introduced restrictions on the export of goods and technology which could contribute to Iran’s enrichment-related, reprocessing, or heavy water-related activities, or to the development of nuclear weapon delivery systems. It also bans the provision of technical assistance, brokering services and investment related to, and the procurement of, such goods and technology from Iran. The amendments, which give effect to Council Regulation (EU) 1228/2009 provide for further prohibitions on the sale, supply or transfer of certain items that could contribute to the proliferation of sensitive nuclear activities or to the development of nuclear weapon delivery systems.
