S.I. No. 538/2024 - Road Traffic Act 2010 (Section 87(1A)) Regulations 2024

Notice of the making of this Statutory Instrument was published in

I, EAMON RYAN, Minister for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 87 (1A) of the Road Traffic Act 2010 (No. 25 of 2010), hereby make the following regulations:

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Road Traffic Act 2010 (Section 87(1A)) Regulations 2024.

2. In these Regulations –

“driving and vehicle instruction” means instruction approved by the Garda Síochána to be provided to trainees in relation to the driving or use of a vehicle in the performance of the duties of a member of the Garda Síochána;

“trainee” means a person to whom driving and vehicle instruction is provided –

(a) who is a member of the Garda Síochána, or

(b) who is admitted to training, in accordance with the Garda Síochána Act 2005 (No. 20 of 2005), for membership in the Garda Síochána;

“trainer”, in relation to a trainee, means a person approved by the Commissioner to provide driving and vehicle instruction to the trainee.

3. Each class of persons specified in the Schedule is prescribed as a class of persons to whom section 87 (1) of the Road Traffic Act 2010 (No. 25 of 2010) shall apply.

SCHEDULE

1. Trainees engaged in the receipt of driving and vehicle instruction from a trainer, for the duration of such instruction.

2. Trainers engaged in the provision of driving and vehicle instruction to trainees, for the duration of such instruction.
