I, DARRAGH O’BRIEN, Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3(1) (inserted by section 7 (a) of the Electoral (Amendment) Act 2011 (No. 14 of 2011)) of the Electoral Act 1997 (No. 25 of 1997) (as adapted by the Housing, Planning and Local Government (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order 2020 ( S.I. No. 408 of 2020 )), having regard to change in the consumer price index, hereby order as follows: | ||
1. This Order may be cited as the Electoral Act 1997 (Variation of Monetary Amounts) Order 2024. | ||
2. In the Electoral Act 1997 (No. 25 of 1997) the monetary amount specified in— | ||
(a) section 21(1)(b)(i), is varied to an amount of €11,200, and | ||
(b) section 32(1)(a), is varied to— | ||
(i) in subparagraph (i), an amount of €38,900, | ||
(ii) in subparagraph (ii), an amount of €48,600, and | ||
(iii) in subparagraph (iii), an amount of €58,350. | ||
3. The Electoral Act 1997 (Limitation and Reimbursement of Election Expenses at Dáil Election) Order 2007 ( S.I. No. 113 of 2007 ) is revoked. | ||

EXPLANATORY NOTE | ||
(This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation.) | ||
This order varies, in line with changes in the Consumer Price Index, the maximum amounts of expenditure which may be incurred by or on behalf of a candidate in a Dáil election to €38,900 in a 3-seat constituency; €48,600 in a 4-seat constituency; and €58,350 in a 5-seat constituency. It also provides, in line with the changes in the Consumer Price Index, that the amount of election expenses which may be reimbursed to a candidate at a Dáil election is the actual expenses or €11,200, whichever is the less. |
