S.I. No. 602/2024 - Social Welfare (Child Benefit and Working Family Payment) (Temporary Provisions) Regulations 2024

I, HEATHER HUMPHREYS, Minister for Social Protection, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 4 (amended by section 14 and reference 1 of the Schedule to the Social Welfare (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2024 (No. 24 of 2024)) and section 292 (amended by section 8(1) of and schedule 1 to the Social Welfare Act 2017 (No. 38 of 2017)) of the Social Welfare Consolidation Act 2005 (No. 26 of 2005), with the consent of the Minister for Public Expenditure, National Development Plan Delivery and Reform, hereby make the following Regulations:

Citation

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Child Benefit and Working Family Payment) (Temporary Provisions) Regulations 2024.

Temporary variation of rate of child benefit

2. (1) This article applies to a person who is, or becomes, entitled to child benefit.

(2) Subject to sub-article (4), in the case of a person to whom this article applies, a child benefit payment payable to that person in respect of 5 November 2024 shall be increased by 100%.

(3) Subject to sub-article (4), in the case of a person to whom this article applies, a child benefit payment payable to that person in respect of 3 December 2024 shall be increased by 100%.

(4) An increase under sub-article (2) or sub-article (3) shall not be payable in the case of an entitlement under section 221B.

Temporary variation of rate of working family payment

3. (1) This article applies to a person who is, or becomes, entitled to working family payment.

(2) In the case of a person to whom this article applies, the working family payment payable to that person in respect of the period commencing on 7 November 2024 and expiring on 13 November 2024, shall be increased by €400.

The Minister for Public Expenditure, National Development Plan Delivery and Reform consents to the making of the foregoing Regulations.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

These Regulations provide for double payment bonuses to recipients of Child Benefit in November and December 2024, and a €400 bonus payment to recipients of the Working Family Payment on 7 November 2024.
