S.I. No. 672/2024 - Road Traffic (National Car Test) (Amendment) Regulations 2024

I, JAMES LAWLESS, Minister of State at the Department of Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 18 of the Road Traffic Act 1961 (No. 24 of 1961) (as adapted by the Transport, Tourism and Sport (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order 2020 ( S.I. No. 351 of 2020 )), and the Transport (Delegation of Ministerial Functions) (No. 2) Order 2024 ( S.I. No. 354 of 2024 ), hereby make the following regulations:

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Road Traffic (National Car Test) (Amendment) Regulations 2024.

(2) These Regulations come into operation on 1 January 2025.

2. Regulation 6 of the Road Traffic (National Car Test) Regulations 2017 ( S.I. No. 415 of 2017 ) is amended—

(a) by the substitution for paragraph (1) of the following:

“(1) Subject to paragraphs (2) and (3), the fee to be paid for a test shall be—

(a) other than in the case of a re-test, €48.78, and

(b) in the case of a re-test, €32.52.”,

and

(b) in paragraph (3), by the substitution for subparagraph (b) of the following:

“(b) in respect of an appointment for-

(i) a test, €19.51 for each occasion on which the vehicle was not presented for the test at the appointed time and place, or

(ii) a re-test, €13.00 for each occasion on which the vehicle was not presented for a re-test at the appointed time and place (other than in circumstances referred to in paragraph (2)).”.

These Regulations amend Regulation 6 of the Road Traffic (National Car Test) Regulations 2017 ( S.I. No. 415 of 2017 ) to increase the cost of a full test, a re-test and the cost for the non-presentation of a vehicle.
