S.I. No. 162/2025 - Physiotherapists Registration Board Approved Qualifications Bye-Law 2025

The Physiotherapists Registration Board, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by section 31 of the Health and Social Care Professionals Act 2005 (as amended), with the approval of the Health and Social Care Professionals Council and the Minister for Health, hereby makes the following bye-law: | ||
1. The Physiotherapists Registration Board Approved Qualifications Bye-Law 2020 (S.I. No. 187 of 2020) is hereby revoked with effect from the date specified in paragraph 2(2), without prejudice to any applications for registration received by the board prior to that date. | ||
2. (1) This bye-law may be cited as the Physiotherapists Registration Board Approved Qualifications Bye-Law 2025. | ||
(2) This bye-law comes into operation on 6 May 2025. | ||
3. In this bye-law – | ||
“the Act” means the Health and Social Care Professionals Act 2005 (no. 27 of 2005) (as amended from time to time); | ||
“General Division” means the General Division of the register of the Physiotherapists Registration Board that was established and now continues under section 36 of the Act; | ||
“Referral for Radiological Diagnostic Procedures Division” means the Referral for Radiological Diagnostic Procedures Division of the register of the Physiotherapists Registration Board that was established and now continues under section 36 of the Act; | ||
“the Register” means the register of the Physiotherapists Registration Board established and maintained under section 36 of the Act. | ||
4. The Physiotherapists Registration Board, for the purposes of Section 38(2)(a) of the Act, hereby approves the following qualifications as attesting to the standard of proficiency required for registration in the General Division of the Register: | ||
(1) Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy, University of Limerick; | ||
(2) Master of Science in Physiotherapy (Professional Qualification), University of Limerick; | ||
(3) Honours Degree of Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy, National University of Ireland, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland; | ||
(4) Master of Science Physiotherapy (pre-registration), National University of Ireland, University College Dublin; | ||
(5) Honours Degree Bachelor of Science (Physiotherapy), National University of Ireland, University College Dublin; | ||
(6) Professional Master of Physiotherapy, National University of Ireland, University College Dublin; | ||
(7) Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy (BSc (Physio)) from the University of Dublin awarded to graduates on successful completion of the four-year pathway/programme to this award; | ||
(8) Master of Science in Physiotherapy, University College Cork. | ||
5. The Physiotherapists Registration Board, for the purposes of Section 38(2)(a) of the Act, hereby approves the following qualifications as attesting to the standard of proficiency required for registration in the Referral for Radiological Diagnostic Procedures Division of the Register: | ||
(1) Professional Certificate in Physiotherapist Referral for Radiological Procedures, National University of Ireland, University College Dublin; | ||
The Minister for Health approves the making of this bye-law. | ||

This bye-law identifies the qualifications awarded in the State which are approved by the Physiotherapists Registration Board as attesting to the standard of proficiency required for registration in the General Division of the Register of Physiotherapists and the Referral for Radiological Diagnostic Procedures Division of the Register of Physiotherapists. |
