I, DARRAGH O’BRIEN, Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act 1972 (No. 27 of 1972) and for the purpose of giving further effect to Directive 2011/65/EU1 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 8 June 2011 on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment, hereby make the following regulations: | ||
1. These Regulations may be cited as the European Union (Restriction of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment) (Amendment) Regulations 2025. | ||
2. In these Regulations – “Principal Regulations” means the European Union (Restriction of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Regulations 2012 ( S.I. No. 513 of 2012 ). | ||
3. Regulation 3(1) of the Principal Regulations is amended by inserting the following definition after the definition of “medical device”: | ||
““Minister” means the Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications.” | ||

This Statutory Instrument amends the European Union (Restriction of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Regulations 2012 ( S.I. No. 513 of 2012 ) to include a definition of the Minister and to give further effect to Directive 2011/65/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 8 June 2011 on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment, as amended. | ||
