S.I. No. 191/2025 - Noxious Weed Order 2025


Notice of the making of this Statutory Instrument was published in

“Iris Oifigiúil” of 16th May, 2025.

WHEREAS I am satisfied that the plants of the species and varieties mentioned in Article 2 of the following Order are noxious weeds;

NOW, I, Martin Heydon, Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 2 of the Noxious Weeds Act 1936 (No. 38 of 1936) (as adapted by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order 2011 ( S.I. No. 455 of 2011 )), order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Noxious Weeds Order 2025 and comes into operation on 14 May 2025.

2. Blackgrass (Alopecurus myosuroides Huds.), Broad-Leaved Dock (Rumex obtusifolius L.), Common Ragwort (Jacobaea vulgaris Gaertn.), Creeping Thistle (Cirsium arvense (L.) Scop.), Curled Dock (Rumex crispus L.), Spear Thistle (Cirsium vulgare (Savi) Ten.), Spring Wild Oat (Avena fatua L.) and Winter Wild Oat (Avena sterilis L.) are declared to be noxious weeds.

3. The area specified for this Order is the whole of the State.

4. The following are revoked:

(a) the Noxious Weeds (Thistle, Ragwort and Dock) Order 1937 ( S.I. No.103 of 1937 ),

(b) the Noxious Weeds (Common Barberry) Order 1958. S.I. No. 120 of 1958 ),

(c) the Noxious Weeds (Male Wild Hop Plant) Order 1965 ( S.I. No.189 of 1965 ), and

(d) the Noxious Weeds (Wild Oat) Order 1973 ( S.I. No. 194 of 1973 ).
