S.I. No. 692/2025 - Data Protection Act 2018 (Section 159(3)) (Amendment) Rules 2025

The District Court Rules Committee, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 159 (3) of the Data Protection Act 2018 , hereby make the following Rules.

Citation and entry into force

1. These Rules, which may be cited as the Data Protection Act 2018 (Section 159(3)) (Amendment) Rules 2025, shall come into operation on the 4th day of February 2026.

Interpretation

2. In these Rules, the “Principal Rules” means the Data Protection Act 2018 (Section 159(3)) Rules 2018 (S. I. No. 663 of 2018).

Amendment

3. The Principal Rules are amended by the substitution for paragraphs (f) and (g) of sub-rule (5) of rule 4 of the following paragraphs:

“(f) to any person in compliance with an order or direction of a court requiring production or discovery of the personal data concerned;

(g) to a bona fide member of the Press or broadcast media in accordance with rules made under section 159(7) of the 2018 Act, and

(h) to any person authorised by the Sentencing Guidelines and Information Committee, established pursuant to section 23 of the Judicial Council Act 2019 to act on its behalf.”
