Examination of witnesses upon oath.

15. . . . every witness at any such hearing as aforesaid shall be examined upon oath or affirmation, and the justice or justices before whom any such witness shall appear for the purpose of being so examined shall have full power and authority to administer to every such witness the usual oath or affirmation.
