S.I. No. 347/1940 - Control of Imports (Quota No. 37, Ninth Period) Order, 1940.

STATUTORY RULES AND ORDERS. 1940. No. 347.

CONTROL OF IMPORTS (QUOTA No. 37, NINTH PERIOD) ORDER, 1940.

WHEREAS it is enacted by subsection (2) of section 6 of the Control of Imports Act, 1934 (No. 12 of 1934), as adapted in consequence of the enactment of the Constitution, that so long as any particular quota order is in force the Government shall, during and not less than one month before the end of every quota period under such quota order, by order—

(a) appoint a period (beginning at the expiration of the said quota period) to be the next quota period under such quota order, and

(b) appoint a specified quantity of goods to which such quota order applies to be the quota for the purposes of the said Act in respect of the said next quota period :

AND WHEREAS by the Control of Imports (Quota No. 37, Eighth Period) Order, 1940 ( S. R. & O. No. 160 of 1940 ), the period beginning on the 1st day of July, 1940, and ending on the 31st day of December, 1940, was appointed to be the eighth quota period under the Control of Imports (Quota No. 37) Order, 1937 ( S. R. & O. No. 288 of 1937 ) :

AND WHEREAS by the Control of Imports (Quota No. 37) (Amendment) Order, 1939 ( S. R. & O. No. 295 of 1939 ), and by the Control of Imports (Quota No. 37) (Amendment) Order, 1940 ( S. R. & O. No. 199 of 1940 ), the said Control of Imports (Quota No. 37) Order, 1937, was amended in certain respects :

NOW, the Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by subsection (2) of section 6 of the Control of Imports Act, 1934 (No. 12 of 1934), as adapted in consequence of the enactment of the Constitution, and of every and any other power them in this behalf enabling, do hereby order as follows :—

1. This Order may be cited as the Control of Imports (Quota No. 37, Ninth Period) Order, 1940.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Order.

3. The period beginning on the 1st day of January, 1941, and ending on the 30th day of June, 1941, is hereby appointed to be the ninth quota period under the Control of Imports (Quota No. 37) Order, 1937 (which relates to certain hats, caps, hoods and shapes).

4. Eighty thousand articles to which the Control of Imports (Quota No. 37) Order, 1937, applies shall be the quota in respect of the said ninth quota period.
