SOLICITORS ACT, 1954 (APPRENTICESHIP & EDUCATION) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1969. | ||
The Incorporated Law Society of Ireland in exercise of the powers conferred on them by sections 4 , 5 and 40 of the Solicitors Act, 1954 and of every other power thereunto them enabling hereby make the following regulations. 1. These regulations may be cited as the Solicitors Act, 1954 (Apprenticeship and Education) (Amendment) Regulations, 1969, and shall be read together with the Solicitors Act, 1954 (Apprenticeship and Education) Regulations, 1955 ( S.I. No. 217 of 1955 ) (hereinafter called "the Principal Regulations") the Solicitors Act 1954 (Apprenticeship and Education) (Amendment) Regulations 1956 ( S.I. No. 307 of 1956 ), the Solicitors Act 1954 (Apprenticeship and Education) (Amendment) Regulations 1965 ( S.I. No. 201 of 1965 ), Solicitors Act, 1954 (Apprenticeship and Education) (Amendment) Regulations 1966 ( S.I. No. 230 of 1966 ) and the Solicitors Act, 1954 (Apprenticeship and Education) (Amendment) Regulations 1968 ( S.I. No. 17 of 1968 ) which may be cited collectively with these regulations as the Solicitors Act, 1954 (Apprenticeship and Education) Regulations 1955 to 1969. 2. These regulations shall come into operation on the 12th day of June, 1969. 3. The Interepretation Act, 1937 shall apply for the purpose of the interpretation of these regulations as it applies for the purpose of the interpretation of an act of the Oireachtas, except insofar as it may be inconsistent with the Act or with these regulations. 4. Paragraph 10 of the Principal Regulations is hereby revoked and the following paragraph is substituted therefor:— | ||
10. The subjects at the preliminary examination shall be as follows:— | ||
(a) English, Latin and Mathematics, together with any two of the following subjects: | ||
(b) History, Geography, Greek, a modern language (other than Irish), Logic, Commerce. | ||

EXPLANATORY NOTE. | ||
The effect of these regulations is to include commerce as an additional optional subject in the preliminary examination. |
