ROAD TRAFFIC (SPECIAL SPEED LIMITS) REGULATIONS, 1994. | ||
The Minister for the Environment in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 5 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961 (No. 24 of 1961) and section 46 of the said Act, as substituted by section 33 of the Road Traffic Act, 1994 (No. 7 of 1994), hereby makes the following Regulations:— 1. These Regulations may be cited as the Road Traffic (Special Speed Limits) Regulations, 1994. 2. In these Regulations— | ||
"the Act" means the Road Traffic Act, 1961 ; | ||
"special speed limit" has the meaning assigned to it by section 46 of the Act. 3. (1) The special speed limits which may be specified for mechanically propelled vehicles in bye-laws made under section 46 of the Act shall be forty miles per hour and fifty miles per hour. | ||
(2) In this article, "mechanically propelled vehicle" does not include the following:— | ||
(a) ambulances, | ||
(b) fire brigade vehicles, and | ||
(c) vehicles used by members of the Garda Síochána in the performance of their duties as such members. | ||

EXPLANATORY NOTE. | ||
These Regulations prescribe the special speed limits which may be specified in bye-laws made by county or county borough councils. |
