S.I. No. 530/2012 - Planning and Development Act 2000 (Designation of Strategic Development Zone: North Lotts and Grand Canal Dock) Order 2012.

Notice of the making of this Statutory Instrument was published in

“Iris Oifigiúil” of 28th December, 2012.

The Government, pursuant to a proposal by the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government following consultation by that Minister with Dublin City Council, being of the opinion that the development specified in Article 4 is of economic and social importance to the State, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 166 of the Planning and Development Act 2000 (No. 30 of 2000) (as adapted by the Environment, Heritage and Local Government (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order 2011 ( S.I. No. 193 of 2011 )), hereby order as follows:

1. (1) This Order may be cited as the Planning and Development Act 2000 (Designation of Strategic Development Zone: North Lotts and Grand Canal Dock) Order 2012.

(2) This Order shall come into operation on 18 December 2012.

2. In this Order “Act of 2000” means the Planning and Development Act 2000 (No. 30 of 2000).

3. The development agency specified for the purposes of section 168 (amended by section 50 of the Planning and Development (Amendment) Act 2010 (No. 30 of 2010)) of the Act of 2000 is Dublin City Council.

4. The area consisting of the lands identified within the inner margin of the red line and hatched in grey, on the map titled “North Lotts and Grand Canal Dock SDZ Boundary” and set out in the Schedule is designated as a site for the establishment of a strategic development zone in accordance with Part IX of the Act of 2000 for the provision of residential development, employment services, commercial activities (including financial services and office, hotel, conference, leisure and retail facilities), cultural facilities, embassies, emergency services, childcare services, educational facilities, transport facilities and community facilities referred to in Part III of the First Schedule to the Act of 2000.

5. The site referred to in Article 4 has been designated for the establishment of a strategic development zone for the development specified in that Article for the following reasons:

(a) the potential and need for comprehensive planning and development of the site due to its economic and social importance to the State;

(b) the efficient use of public investment in infrastructural facilities; and

(c) the giving of effect to the policies contained in the development plan made by Dublin City Council in accordance with section 9 of the Act of 2000.
