S.I. No. 526/2025 - European Union (Vessel Traffic Monitoring and Information System) (Amendment) Regulations 2025

Notice of the making of this Statutory Instrument was published in

“Iris Oifigiúil” of 7th November, 2025.

I, DARRAGH O’BRIEN, Minister for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act 1972 (No. 27 of 1972) and for the purposes of giving effect to Commission Delegated Directive (EU) 2025/811 of 19 February 20251 , hereby make the following regulations:

1. These Regulations may be cited as the European Union (Vessel Traffic Monitoring and Information System) (Amendment) Regulations 2025.

2. Regulation 2 of the European Communities (Vessel Traffic Monitoring and Information System) Regulations 2010 ( S.I. No. 573 of 2010 ) is amended by substituting for the definition of “Directive” the following:

“‘Directive’ means Directive 2002/59/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 June 20022 , as amended by—

(a) Directive 2009/17/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 23 April 20093 ,

(b) Directive 2009/18/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 23 April 20094 ,

(c) Commission Directive 2011/15/EU of 23 February 20115 ,

(d) Commission Directive 2014/100/EU of 28 October 20146 ,

(e) Regulation (EU) 2019/1243 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 June 20197 , and

(f) Commission Delegated Directive (EU) 2025/811 of 19 February 20251 ;”.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation.)

These Regulations give effect to Commission Delegated Directive (EU) 2025/811 of 19 February 2025. The Regulations amend the European Communities (Vessel Traffic Monitoring and Information System) Regulations 2010 ( S.I. No. 573 of 2010 ) and in particular amend the definition of the term Directive to take account of the Commission Delegated Directive.
