THE HUGUENOT CEMETERY DUBLIN (PETER STREET) ACT, 1966

AN ACT TO PROVIDE FOR THE CLOSING OF THE BURIAL GROUND FOR FRENCH PROTESTANTS, COMMONLY CALLED THE HUGUENOT CEMETERY, SITUATE AT PETER STREET IN THE PARISH OF ST. PETER AND CITY OF DUBLIN, TO PROVIDE FOR THE VESTING OF THE SAID CEMETERY IN W. & R. JACOB & CO., LIMITED, AND TO PROVIDE FOR OTHER MATTERS CONNECTED WITH THE MATTERS AFORESAID. [22nd June, 1966.]

WHEREAS the burial ground for French Protestants (commonly called the Huguenot Cemetery) situate at Peter Street in the Parish of Saint Peter and City of Dublin, is now vested in Francis la Touche Godfrey, James Chaigneau Colvill, Ashley Powell, Christabel Frances Godfrey, Maureen Franks, and Thomas Barrington Jellett as Trustees of the French Huguenot Fund pursuant to a scheme for the administration of the said Fund approved by the Vice-Chancellor of Ireland by Order dated the 1st day of July 1902 and made in a matter entitled “High Court of Justice (Ireland) Chancery Division In the Matter of the French Huguenot Fund and of the Statute 52 Geo. III Cap. 101” and amended by Order of the Honourable Mr. Justice Barton, dated the 24th day of April, 1917, and made in the said matter:

AND WHEREAS no interments have taken place in the said cemetery since 1879:

AND WHEREAS W. & R. Jacob & Co., Limited have proposed to purchase the said cemetery from the said Trustees upon the terms contained in the proposal set out in the Schedule to this Act:

AND WHEREAS by Order of the Honourable Mr. Justice Kenny dated the 5th day of October, 1964, and made in a Matter entitled “1964, No. 92 S.P. The High Court. In the Matter of the French Huguenot Fund, and in the Matter of the Charities Act, 1961 between Francis la Touche Godfrey James Chaigneau Colvill Ashley Powell Christabel Frances Godfrey Maureen Franks Thomas Barrington Jellett Plaintiffs and the Attorney General and W. & R. Jacob & Co., Limited Defendants” it was (inter alia) ordered and adjudged that the Plaintiffs as Trustees of the said Charity be and were thereby at liberty to introduce and promote a Private Bill in the Oireachtas for the purpose of enabling them to accept the said offer of the Defendants W. & R. Jacob & Co., Limited and of allowing the said Defendants to carry into effect the proposals contained in their said Offer:

AND WHEREAS it is expedient that the said cemetery be closed and that interments therein be discontinued and that W. & R. Jacob & Co., Limited be empowered to remove the remains of all deceased persons therefrom and use the said cemetery for and in connection with its undertaking:

AND WHEREAS the purposes aforesaid cannot be effected without the authority of the Oireachtas:
