I, MICHEÁL MARTIN, Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act 1972 (No. 27 of 1972) and for the purpose of giving effect to Commission Directive 2007/3/EC of 2 February 2007 1 hereby make the following regulations— | ||
1. These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Names and Labelling of Textile Products) (Amendment) Regulations 2008. | ||
2. In these Regulations, “Principal Regulations” means the European Communities (Names and Labelling of Textile Products) Regulations 1998 ( S.I. No. 245 of 1998 ). | ||
3. Regulation 2 of the Principal Regulations is amended by substituting the following for the definition of “the Directive”: | ||
“the Directive means Directive No. 96/74 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 16 December 1996 2 , as amended by Commission Directive No. 97/37/EC of 19 June 1997 3 , Commission Directive No. 2004/34/EC of 23 March 2004 4 , Commission Directive 2006/3/EC of 9 January 2006 5 , and Commission Directive 2007/3/EC of 2 February 20071;”. | ||

EXPLANATORY NOTE | ||
(This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be legal interpretation). | ||
This labelling of textiles is governed by the Principal Regulations [ SI No. 245 of 1998 which transposed EU Directive 96/74/EC]. Commission Directive 2007/3/EC amends the Principal Regulations by adding a new textile called “elastolefin”. | ||
