I, BRENDAN SMITH, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act 1972 (No. 27 of 1972) and for the purpose of giving effect to Commission Decision No. 2008/543/EC of 18 June 2008 1 , hereby make the following regulations: | ||
1. These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Protection measures in relation to highly pathogenic avian influenza of the subtype H5N1 in poultry) Regulations 2008. | ||
2. The European Communities (Protection measures in relation to highly pathogenic avian influenza of the subtype H5N1 in poultry) (No. 2) Regulations 2006 ( S.I. No. 491 of 2006 ) are amended, in Regulation 2(1) by the substitution for the definition of “Commission Decision”, of— | ||
“ ‘Commission Decision’ means Commission Decision No. 2006/415/EC of 14 June 2006 as amended by Commission Decision No. 2007/119/EC of 16 February 2007; Commission Decision No. 2007/454/EC of 29 June 2007 and Commission Decision No. 2008/543/EC of 18 June 2008;”. | ||

These Regulations give effect to Commission Decision 2008/543/EC which extends the period of application of Commision Decision 2006/415/EC. | ||
