I, MARY HARNEY, Minister for Health and Children, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by subsections (3) and (4) (inserted by the Health (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2007 (No. 42 of 2007)) of section 1 of the Medical Practitioners Act 2007 (No. 25 of 2007), hereby order as follows: | ||
1. This Order may be cited as the Medical Practitioners Act 2007 (Commencement) (No. 3) Order 2008. | ||
2. The 31st day of December 2008 is appointed as the day on which the following provisions of the Medical Practitioners Act 2007 (No. 25 of 2007) (as amended by the Health (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2007 (No. 42 of 2007)) shall come into operation: | ||
(a) section 3(1) and Part 1 of Schedule 1 insofar as they relate to the repeal of the provisions specified in the Schedule to this Order; | ||
(b) section 86, other than paragraphs (c) and (d) of subsection (3); | ||
(c) section 88(9); and | ||
(d) Part 12. | ||

Chapter 2 of Part IV of, and the Third Schedule to, the Medical Practitioners Act 1978 (No. 4 of 1978). | ||

EXPLANATORY NOTE | ||

This Order brings into operation, on 31 December 2008, certain provisions of the Medical Practitioners Act 2007 , as amended by the Health (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2007 . | ||
The provisions concerned allow for the dissolution of the Postgraduate Medical and Dental Board; the transfer of its staff, property and liabilities to the Health Service Executive; the assignment of certain functions relating to medical and dental education and training, and the repeal of certain related provisions in the Medical Practitioners Act 1978 . |
