Richard, Duke of York, to have fairs and markets in Ratoath.

XIV. Also, at the request of the Commons, having consideration of the notable and voluntary service which the most high and puissant prince, Richard Duke of York, has done to our lord the King, as well in his realms of England and France as in his land of Ireland and Duchy of Normandy, it is granted by authority of the said parliament to the said Duke and his heirs for ever, lords of the manor of Ratoath in the liberty of Meath, that they in the town of Ratoath, parcel of the said manor, may have their market in the said town, to be held on Monday from week to week. And also that the said Duke and his heirs may have a fair to be held in the said town twice in the year, that is to say, one to commence in the vigil of the feast of Saint John the Baptist, and so to continue for two days next ensuing; and the other to commence in the feast of the Innocents at the festival of Christmas, and so to continue for two days next ensuing. And also that the said Duke and his heirs may have a market in his town of Carlingford in the liberty of Ulster, to be held on the Saturday from week to week. And also the said Duke and his heirs May have a fair within the said town of Carlingford, to commence in the vigil of the Holy Trinity, and so to continue until the Saturday next ensuing; [and also that it shall be lawful for] the said Duke and his heirs to have and receive such customs of all things brought for sale to the said markets and fairs, as the mayor, bailiffs and citizens of the city of Dublin have and receive of all things brought for sale to the said city, excepting the city of Dublin, town of Drogheda, and all other cities and towns before this time privileged and enfranchised. And that all manner of persons, of whatever condition they be, have free coming, remaining and departing at the said fairs and markets, unless it be for causes begun in the said fairs and markets, saving to every man his action who will sue, and the said towns and Holy Church, and all other men who ought to be free in the said towns.
